◆ Polypropylene (PP) is more rigid than polyethylene (PE)
The bending modulus of PP is about 1.52Gpa, while that of PE is only 207MGpa. The chemical resistance is similar to that of PE. Take the Ace type PP foamed material of Kogawa Electric Company in Japan as an example. Its mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and tear strength, are at the highest level of foamed plastic. Its compressive strength is lower than that of hard PUR and foamed PS, but higher than that of soft PUR. It has medium compressive strength.
◆ Polypropylene has high thermal deformation temperature and can be used in high temperature field
Foamed polypropylene usually can withstand 130 ℃, which is much higher than the maximum use temperature of polyethylene foam of 80 ℃. Foamed PP, like foamed PE, has a closed cell structure. Therefore, its thermal conductivity will not be affected by moisture, and it is lower than foamed PE. It has significant thermal insulation, so it can be used as a senior thermal insulation material.
◆ Good low-temperature characteristics
EPP products show good performance even at - 30 ℃.
◆ High energy absorption
Because of the special cell structure of EPP products, it absorbs the dissipated energy through the stagnation and compression of the gas in the cell, and has excellent compressive energy absorption performance. It is widely used in automobile bumper energy processing system and other anti-collision energy absorbing components.
◆ Good size and shape recovery stability
EPP products will recover their original shape immediately after being continuously impacted and flexed for many times without deformation, and have the ability of "memory".
◆ Suitable for repeated use
EPP products have good flexibility, can be used repeatedly, and are not easy to break.

EPP products have extremely light weight, can greatly reduce weight, and can be used in aircraft, automobiles and other heavy saving parts.
◆ Good surface protection
EPP products are semi hard formed, with moderate hardness, softness, no scratches and bumps on objects in contact with them, and good surface protection.
◆ Low water permeability and good buoyancy
Due to the closed cell structure of EPP, its products have long-term, excellent floatability and low water permeability, even in brine, its floatability will not be weakened.
◆ Good oil and chemical resistance
Because of the chemical inertia of EPP, its products have good oil resistance and chemical resistance.

3、 Application fields of EPP products
1. Food packaging
In the hard packaging market, the PP market has great potential. The density of foamed PP sheets listed abroad is 0.063g/cm3, and that of ordinary PP sheets is 0.91g/cm3. With the development of PP foamed sheet products, it will undoubtedly strengthen its competitiveness in the food field to replace PET.
Now microwave ovens and microwave foods have entered people's family life, while the food packaging containers made of cross-linked foamed PP sheets by thermoforming can be used in microwave ovens due to their heat resistance up to 130 ℃, and they are resistant to boiling water, stable at high temperatures, and comfortable on the surface. People have a good impression of their environment. For example, thermoforming foamed PP with density of 0.5-0.7g/cm3 and thickness of 0.5-1.5mm is the raw material for producing tableware and beverage cups with high rigidity and good insulation. Foamed PP sheet with density of 0.2-1.51g/cm3 and thickness of 1.0-3.5mm is used to produce meat packaging materials, food packaging materials and bottle gaskets.
2. Cushion packaging
The most important performance required by cushioning packaging is energy absorption. PP foam molded products can be used to withstand high loads, and their protection against repeated impacts is superior to foamed polystyrene (PS) molded products or foamed polyurethane (PUR). Therefore, foamed PP can be used for shockproof and cushioning packaging of computers, advanced medical appliances, precision instruments, audio-visual materials, cameras, glass ceramics, handicrafts, various household appliances, etc., to avoid damage and damage in transportation. Due to the advantages of direct recycling, soft texture and no damage to the surface of the package, there is a trend to replace PS foam materials in the field of electrical packaging.
